Thingstätte: One may find a translation of the word in an English/German dictionary and see a reference to a place erected by the Nazis for their crazy ceremonies, but that is not all the meaning of the word. The “Thing” was the assembly of the ancient Germanic Tribes, where the tribal leaders would discuss issues and make decisions. Kind of like a pow pow for ancient Germanen. Die Thingstätte is the site of such a meeting. Thingstätte is also the name of my favorite bar in Mannheim, where Roland (or Rolly to his friends) is ready to welcome all who step through his door.
On a late night in December of 2004 I sat in der Thingstätte for hours with my friend Ingo, playing guitar, drinking, singing and talking with the chain smoking Rolly, who looks like Lemmy from Motörhead.
As we went to leave, Rolly, said his goodbyes with these words: Für solche Abende habe ich diese Kneipe geöffnet. (I opened this bar for evenings like this).
In the same spirit I open my own Thingstätte.
I have diverse interests: Religion, music, German Literature and Detroit. (In that order)
